Canes made of palm tree and palm stemThe oldest fossilized palm tree date at the jurassic period. This tree has always been a source of food, clothing and shelter for mankind. Palms are one of the most well-known and extensively cultivated plant families. They have had an important role to humans throughout much of history. It was one of the first trees in the gardens of Babylon Magnificent cane made with natural sculpted palm stem, cap in silver. The palm wood is disposed around a soft and spongy heart, in distinct concentric shapes that becomes more hard as they move away from the heart. The wood of the palm tree is formed with hard fibre that, put together by a medulare substance a pith, outline in cross section shows a dotted area and gives a strange impression. Planed, polished and varhished it looks from outward like a light partridge wings recumbent by the rain. For
making canes, the tubular sheath, of the palm tree branches, is also used and offers the same
qualities as the rush: suppleness, lightness and strength. (Opposite) The Madagascar's palm tree: Hard and flexible, the R. madagascariensis wood is used for the making of small boards and canes. (Nat. 1926) We use the palm tree, cuted followed the fibres wise, to make billiard cue, canes, umbrellas and parasols knob. (Arts et Métiers vers 1885) Palm tree from latin america |
