Shark spinal column canesAbove, on the right, a sailor cane, ivory handle sculpted in the shape of a white whale -Moby dick-, the tail is in horn. Shark column shaft. Measure of the handle: 1¼, high, 5 inch long. Total lenght: 33 ¼ inches. First part of the XIX th century. Opposite and above, Capitain's cane: Shaft made with shark spinal column. High knob made in wood in ivory. The sculpture of the knob represents a chinese demon with a long spiral neck. The head is hollow. Strange movable eyes are in it. Circa: 1820. Total dimensions of the cane: High knob: 4.7 inch, Overall lenght: 38.6 inch. |
